I’ve had many people ask me how I came up with the idea for the Ultimate Body Challenge (UBC), so here it is!

The UBC was created from my 25 plus years of experience in fitness and martial arts. When I first started martial arts as a teenager back in the 70’s and early 80’s, martial arts was very different.  At that time there were few kids in the martial arts schools and it was very rough.

When I opened my first school in 1983, at the age of 19, I focused on my competitive career and on becoming a World kickboxing Champion – a goal I achieved in 1991.

I was fortunate to open my school in 1983 because the following year the hit movie “Karate Kid” came out. The “Karate Kid” movie completely changed the martial arts industry. It seemed like overnight martial arts went from blood and guts karate schools to a businesses helping families.

I jumped into my family oriented martial arts school with both feet. My school grew to a level of over 500 active students. For over ten years I enjoyed teaching children and being involved with so many families.  Even though I felt I was making a positive impact in my community, after a while my passion diminished. 90% of my students were children and I wanted to get back to teaching and training adults…..To be continued
